- Racing Headset -

Request: A need for a way to allow a race car driver to communicate with his pit crew.
Solution: We created a custom earmold with a single driver in each earmold and a minijack terminal.

- Television Props -

Request: The prop department from the television show ‘24’ needed a discreet, high-tech looking custom earpiece to fit Keifer Sutherland.
Solution: We made a CIC canal style earmold with a small circuit inlaid into the faceplate. Additional wires ran from the circuit board to the end of the canal for a more “futuristic” look.

- Stethoscope Earpiece -

Request: A physician requested a custom eartip for his stethoscope. Because of a surgical procedure, he had problems properly seating the tip in his outer ear canal.
Solution: We used an ear impression to make a custom earmold and fit that to the end of the stethoscope. This kept the stethoscope tip seated in the outer ear canal.

- Style No. 95 for Conforma™ -

Request: Sonic innovations came to Westone requesting a custom sleeve for their Conforma hearing instrument.
Solution: We developed and made a CIC earmold with a hard acrylic exterior and a clear flexible lining. A removal filament and color coded dot were added.

- Stage Set Headpiece -

Request: A request was made for a way to allow communication between stage and lighting designers.
Solution: A custom earmold shell was developed with an integral boom mic designed to tie into existing theater and arena communications systems.

- Mastoid BTE Cradle -

Request: An individual who had a mastoidectomy requested a device to secure the BTE (behind-the-ear hearing instrument) to prevent it from falling into the cavity.
Solution: Westone created a Mediflex sleeve to hold the BTE in position.

- Style No. 99 for adesso™ -

Request: Sonic innovations came to Westone requesting a custom sleeve for their adesso hearing instrument.
Solution: We developed and made a CIC (completely-in-the-canal) earmold out of a soft UV material with a removal filament and color coding.

- Custom Earplugs -

Request: Due to a chemical fire, a fireman lost his sight and fingertips. But he needed earplugs.
Solution: Westone worked with the firefighter’s audiologist to design earplugs he could recognize and easily insert and remove. Our design led to one round end and one square end, allowing the patient to identify which was left and right.

- Custom in-ear musicians monitors -

Request: A customer requested a custom design to be placed on the faceplate of his in-ear music monitors.
Solution: A custom star design was created by our monitor lab.

- Custom Stethoscope -

Request: Often we are asked to improve existing technology with our custom earmolds. One popular application is our custom stethoscope.
Solution: Using a pair of Style No. 1 earmolds, a pair of adapt-a-scopes, some stetho-tubing and "Y" adapter, we are able to convert a stock stethoscope into a custom version. Available in either binaural or monaural (especially popular with anesthesiologists).

 

- Comma -

Request: We were asked to develop an earpiece that would position a pair of small microphones in the ear for the purpose of recording musical events at ear level.
Solution: We developed an injection molded “comma” shaped piece into which the microphones would friction fit. The hooks held the mics in place at the opening of the ear canal
